ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa.-- The Elizabethtown women's lacrosse overcame a 6-3 deficit at halftime and stormed back to a 10-9 thrilling win over Alvernia on Saturday.
Ella Scholes recorded a hat-trick and an assist.
Megan Meyer totaled three assists and two goals, while
Drew Bridges and
Hailey Meyer both added two goals each.
Etown outshot Alvernia 44-23 but the Golden Wolves were able to keep it within one in the end. Alvernia went up 2-0 towards the end of the first quarter before Bridges found M.Meyer with just under a minute remaining. Within seconds of opening the second quarter, Alvernia extended their lead to 3-1. H.Meyer responded with her second goal of the game from Scholes. The Golden Wolves doubled their lead to 4-2 at 9:28. On a quick clear,
Alyssa Golombeck scored unassisted to come back within one of Alvernia. The Golden Wolves added two more before halftime to lead, 6-3.
Alvernia scored early in the third before Etown rattled off four straight goals, tying up the game at 7-7. In the final 30 seconds, Alvernia went up 8-7 after a free-position opportunity. M.Meyer and Scholes worked together on the Blue Jays next two goals giving Etown their first lead of the game. At 3:03, M.Meyer found her sister H.Meyer for the game winning goal. Alvernia went on to add one more goal but it wasn't enough as Etown won, 10-9.
Etown will travel to Gwynedd Mercy on Wednesday at 4 pm.
