LANCASTER, Pa.— The Elizabethtown men's volleyball team moved to 10-1 Saturday afternoon as they defeated Lancaster Bible and Widener, 3-1.
GAME 1: LANCASTER BIBLE 1, ELIZABETHTOWN 3 (26-24, 24-26, 25-23, 25-23)
Braydon Ambruster led the match with 16 kills while totaling seven digs and a season-high five blocks.
Patrick Neyer recorded his second double-double with 36 assists and 11 digs.
Logan Smith totaled 10 kills while
Dustin Hagin grabbed 16 digs.
In a thrilling four-set match the two teams forced 26-points in the first two sets. Starting off the first set Etown and LBC traded points before the Chargers took a 12-8 lead. The Blue Jays tied up the set at 12 all with four straight points. Kills from Ambruster, Smith, and
Craig Patrick put the Jays ahead, 19-17. A 3-0 run from Etown brought them to set-point before LBC tied up the set to force extras. Two Charger errors ended the set with a 26-24 Etown win. Set two was very similar but it saw a different outcome for Etown as Lancaster Bible won, 26-24.
Lancaster Bible began set three with the lead before Charger errors tied up the set 10-10. The score was tied nine more times before the end of the set but an LBC error then a kill from Ambruster gave Etown the 25-23 win. Set four saw the Blue Jays jump to an 8-3 lead. The Chargers came within two of Etown after recording five in a row. Ambruster and Sears kills along with Chargers errors helped Etown win the set, 25-23 and the match, 3-1.
GAME 2: WIDENER 1, ELIZABETHTOWN 3 (25-20, 21-25, 25-17, 25-17)
Ambruster totaled a season-high 20 kills (.305) while grabbing three blocks and nine digs. Smith totaled 14 kills and five digs. Neyer tallied 37 assists and Hagin totaled 17 digs.
Set one was very tight in the beginning as neither team would lead by more than three. Kills from Ambruster and Smith pulled Etown away 14-10. A kill from
Mason Boyer then extended the team's lead to 16-12. Three straight from the Blue Jays lifted them ahead by six and they never looked back as they took set one, 25-20. After starting off with an 11-6 lead in set two, Widener would go on to take the set, 25-21.
Etown was back to themselves in the third set as they jumped to a 10-4 lead. Kills from
Arun Gopinath and Ambruster put the team ahead, 15-9. The two traded points for a while before the Blue Jays ended the set one a 5-1 run to win, 25-17. The Blue Jays soared to a 12-2 lead in set four. The Pride wasn't able to catch up resulting in a 25-17 Etown win.
The Blue Jays continue their tough set of matches as they travel to Stevenson on Feb. 5.
