SELINSGROVE, Pa. -- Saturday's road matchup at Susquehanna was a pretty even contest, it was just the River Hawks hitting a few more shots than the Elizabethtown College women's basketball team did on the afternoon as Susquehanna bested Etown, 75-62.
Makenna Mummert had a game-high 27 points.
Both teams had 69 possessions over 40 minutes and each hit 13 free throws. Susquehanna finished the game with 27 made field goals while Elizabethtown ended up with 21, with the River Hawks having an additional three-pointer, eight to Etown's seven.
The River Hawks shot 50 percent in the opening quarter and led 19-13 after one. They'd put up another 19 in the second quarter while the Jays shot less than 30 percent as they tried to keep pace. Susquehanna led 38-25 at halftime.
Mummert and
Ella Gordon combined for all of Elizabethtown threes in the game. Gordon hit four and Mummert knocked down three.
The third and fourth quarters were within a point, the River Hawks edging the Jays in the third while EC won the fourth.
Susquehanna utilized the paint, almost doubling up Etown, 34-18, while also shooting 50 percent from beyond the arc (8-16 3PT).
The Blue Jays are scheduled to host Moravian on Wednesday, January 28, at 7 p.m.
