Men’s Volleyball Wins Two at Eastern

ST. DAVID'S, Pa.—The Elizabethtown men's volleyball team moved to 7-1 on the season after a perfect 3-0 week. Etown swept Cairn before defeating host Eastern, 3-1 on Saturday.

GAME 1: CAIRN 0, ELIZABETHTOWN 3 (25-23, 25-18, 25-15)
Reid Maas tied a season-high 11 kills while grabbing five digs. Hugh Rogers tallied 28 assists. The team totaled 10 aces and nine total blocks.

Set one saw Etown jump to a 7-3 lead after four straight points. Kills from Indi Singh, Maas, and Alan Lisman put the Blue Jays up 13-7. A six-point run from Cairn tied up the set at 13. From there the Jays were able to take control and win, 25-23.

Etown again started off the set with substantial lead before the Highlanders made a comeback. Etown then rattled off five in a row to grab a 15-9 lead. Singh, Declan Keller and Rogers put down kills extending the team's lead to 20-14. The Blue Jays finished off the set with a 5-1 run to win, 25-18.

Cairn led 6-5 to start off the third set before Etown pulled away to lead, 9-6. Kills from Samuel Ulrich and Lisman put Etown up 14-9. Six straight points from the Blue Jays brought the team just five away from match point. An ace from Singh ended the set, 25-15.

GAME 2: EASTERN 1, ELIZABETHTOWN 3 (25-18, 29-27, 20-25, 25-18)
Logan Smith recorded a career-high 24 kills (.362) and five aces. Mason Boyer tied a career-high 12 kills (.526). Arun Gopinath totaled 11 kills, and Patrick Neyer tallied 42 assists. The team totaled nine aces and 12 total blocks.

In set one, Eastern grabbed an early lead before Etown rattled off eight straight points to lead, 10-7. After some back-n-forth, the Eagles kept it close. Two straight kills from Smith put Etown up, 20-16. A 5-1 run helped the Blue Jays come out with a 25-18 win.

The Blue Jays started off set two with a 12-5 lead. Kills from Boyer and Smith then put the team ahead, 15-8. Eastern gained momentum closing the gap to trail 21-22. A kill from Smith tied up the set at 25 forcing extra points. Eagle errors helped lift Etown to a 29-27 win. Eastern brought their momentum into set three as they defeated the Blue Jays, 25-20.

In set four, Eastern started off with an 8-4 lead before Etown rattled off six in row to take a 10-8 lead. After trading points two back-to-back kills from Smith put Etown up, 18-13. The two teams went back and forth until the end but the Jays came out on top, 25-18.

Etown will host Cairn on Thursday, January 29.
