ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa.—After a close first half, Catholic got away from the Elizabethtown College men's basketball team, Wednesday evening.
Woody Machado led the team with a season-high 25 points while
Austin Finarelli totaled 18 points.
Both teams were equal from the field in the first half but in the second half the Cardinals outshot the Blue Jays. Catholic went 21 for 31 while Etown went 12-29 from the field in the second half.
Catholic started off slow as Etown took an early 6-2 lead following an
EJ Finney layup. The Cardinals then went on a 7-0 and from there they would go on to hold the lead until the final five minutes of the first half.
Zuri Harris sunk a three at the five-minute mark to put Etown up, 25-23.
Ben Stanton and Finarelli would make the Jays final baskets going into halftime with a 30-27 lead.
The Cardinals started off the second half hot as they came out on an 8-0 run to lead, 35-30. The Blue Jays would keep it close until the 13 minute mark when the Cardinal pulled away to a double-digit lead. An 8-0 run extended the Cardinals lead by 19 as they led, 59-40. Finney and Machado added layups down the stretch but it wasn't enough to close the gap. Etown cut Catholics lead to as low as 13 in the final minutes but it wasn't enough for a comeback as the Blue Jays fell, 87-70.
Etown travels to Susquehanna on Saturday to face the River Hawks for a second time this season.
