Women's basketball wins on the road at Wilkes

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. -- The Elizabethtown College women's basketball team bounced back from their first Landmark loss with a road win at Wilkes on Saturday at the Marts Center. Makenna Mummert had a team-high 20 points for the Blue Jays.

It took a half for the shooting to heat up for Elizabethtown as the Jays only hit three shots in each of the first two quarters. Fortunately, Wilkes wasn't shooting much better.

The game went into halftime tied at 16-16.

Etown took over in the third control as they shot over 50 percent and outscored the Colonels 26-8. Mummert herself outscored Wilkes 13-8 as the senior went 5-for-7 from the field, including a pair of threes.

The Colonels had taken a quick lead on a three-pointer and had four points through the first two and a half minutes, but the Blue Jays then held Wilkes to four over the remainder of the quarter as they built up their lead. Kiley Wilhelm made it an 18-point game with two free throws in the final minute of the third.

Elizabethtown led by as many as 20 in the fourth a few times, including the final score. Alex Gonzalez grabbed an offensive rebound on a missed foul shot and set up Wilhelm for a layup, the Jays' final points of the game.

Etown will play Juniata in Thompson Gym on Wednesday, January 14, at 7 p.m.
