CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.—The Elizabethtown women's volleyball team got back into the win-column Saturday after sweeping Wilson and defeating FDU-Florham, 3-1.
GAME 1: WILSON 0, ELIZABETHTOWN 3 (25-18, 25-15, 25-13)
Angela Ouimet totaled 17 assists while
Bailey Doherty put up a tying career-high 15 assists.
Ida Fisher led the team in kills with 11 while
Lucy Stanek grabbed ten digs.
Etown was off to a great start against Wilson as they started off with a 7-3 lead following two-straight kills. The Blue Jays then doubled their lead after the team rattled off six-straight. Fisher smacked down a kill to bring the team within five of winning the set. A Wilson error ended the set, 25-18.
The two teams traded points until the Blue Jays jumped to an 11-3 lead following kills from Fisher, Stanek and
Lucy Stern. Kills from
Sierra Plummer doubled Etown's lead to 16-8. Wilson tried to make a comeback before the Blue Jays went on a 6-0 to earn the 25-15 win.
Set three saw Etown jump out to a 7-0 lead. Kills from Stanek and Plummer put the team up11-2. Fisher kills then sandwiched a block by Fisher and Plummer bringing the score to 16-6. Etown kept control through the end of the set to win 25-13.
GAME 2: ELIZABETHTOWN 3, FDU-FLORHAM 1 (25-23, 19-25, 25-15, 25-17)
Stanek recorded a double-double of 17 kills and 17 digs.
Kate Barbon added ten kills and four digs. Ouimet tallied 29 assists while Stern grabbed 14 digs.
FDU-Florham started with the 9-4 lead in set one. Etown tied up the set at 10-10 following Devils errors. The two teams traded points but FDU still held the lead. Following four in a row from Etown the Blue Jays led 19-18. Fisher and Barbon finished off the 25-23 set win with kills.
After FDU-Florham took set two 25-19, the Blue Jays came back in set three. Etown jumped out to an easy 13-1 lead with help from Stanek, Stern, Plummer, and Barbon. FDU was able to close in on the Blue Jays lead midway through the set as they Devils trailed by five. It was then too much to recover for the Devils as Etown won the set, 25-15.
FDU responded to their loss in set two by starting set four with an 8-2 lead. The Blue Jays then gained momentum coming just within one of the Devils at 11-10. Etown rattled off six straight to take the lead at 16-14. Five straight Blue Jay kills extended the team's lead even further to 22-15. A Devils error ended the set 25-17.
