ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa.—The Elizabethtown women's volleyball team faced another tough Centennial Conference opponent in Swarthmore. The Garnet swept the Blue Jays, 3-0.
Lucy Stanek led the team with a double-double of 11 kills and ten digs.
Kate Barbon totaled seven kills while
Angela Ouimet tallied ten assists.
Lucy Stern grabbed 17 digs.
Set one started fairly even until Swarthmore rattled off eight straight points to jump to a 19-8 lead.
Ida Fisher and Stanek each put down a kill before another Garnet run to end the set 25-11.
Etown started off with the lead in set two following Stanek and Fisher kills. After three straight the Garnet tied it up at 9-9. After some back-n-forth, Swarthmore put down three straight kills to take a 17-12 lead. The Garnet came within five of set-point after some Blue Jay errors. Swarthmore ended the set, 25-19 with two straight kills.
Set three was tight to start as Etown tied up the set early at 4-4. A Barbon kill gave Etown the lead at 7-6. Following a 6-1 run from the Garnet, they had taken over the lead at 16-11. Shortly after the Blue Jays came within one and then tied up the set at 18-18 following several Swarthmore errors. Three straight kills from Etown brought the team within two of set-point, but it was Swarthmore who closed it out and won the set, 25-23.
The Blue Jays move to 9-4 on the season and will travel to Keystone on Thursday, Sept. 25.
