Comeback attempt falls short for women's lacrosse

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- The Elizabethtown College women's lacrosse team found itself down by as many as 11 in the third quarter and furiously came back in the fourth, but ultimately fell short of Moravian 15-12 on Wednesday at Wolf Field. Drew Bridges had a team-high four goals for the Blue Jays.

Elizabethtown held the lead twice in the first quarter, first at 1-0 on Megan Meyer's opening goal at 11:22 on Ella Scholes' assist. Then, Meyer made it 2-1 on a helper from Bridges at 6:21.

The Greyhounds then went on an 11-0 unanswered run that went into the beginning of the third quarter as they held the Jays scoreless for the rest of the first and all of the second to lead 11-2 at halftime. An early goal in the third made it 12-2 before Gress scored unassisted at 9:29 of the third quarter.

Moravian then led 14-3 heading into the fourth.

Etown won the draw control battle in the fourth, 7-4, and shots were finding the net unlike the first half. All four of Bridges' goals came in the fourth to help spark the comeback attempt. Abby Bach added two goals and an assist for Elizabethtown. Lauren Puntanen scored twice, including a player down. Puntanen's second of the quarter came with 1:31 left that got EC within three, but the Greyhounds were able to control the ball for the final 90 seconds and ride out the game.

Elizabethtown will host Scranton on Saturday, April 12, at 1 p.m.
