VERO BEACH, Fla.—The Elizabethtown baseball team split their doubleheader, Tuesday afternoon against Norwich. The Blue Jays fell, 8-3 in game one before coming back to defeat the Cadets, 9-3 in game two.
GAME 1: NORWICH 8, ELIZABETHTOWN 3
Nick Fiorini started off his day with a RBI double to left center as he got Etown on the board early in the first inning. From there the Blue Jay pitching struggles began as the Cadets took the lead in the bottom of the first scoring two of their three runs off balks. Etown tied up the game 3-3 in the third as Fiorini started the inning with a single up the middle. After another single and a sacrifice bunt, Fiorini reached third.
Tommy Kanakos knocked a double left center to bring home Fiorini.
In the bottom of the third Norwich regained lead as they added two more runs. The Cadets scored another in fifth to lead 6-3 before finishing off the game with two more runs in the seventh to win, 8-3.
Fiorini went 2 for 4 with one run, a double and one RBI. Kanakos went 1 for 4 with a double and two RBIs.
GAME 2: ELIZABETHTOWN 9, NORWICH 3
Elizabethtown again grabbed the first run of the game as Kanakos scored in the second. Norwich scored two runs in the third taking a 2-1 lead. The Blue Jays bounced back in the bottom of the third, scoring four runs to take a 5-2 lead.
Sawyer Martin and
Charlie Sheerer each hit a RBI single to extend Etown's lead by one. On a Norwich error two more Etown runs scored in the third.
The Blue Jays held their momentum tacking on two more runs in the fourth.
Quinten Perilli started off the inning with a single through the left side and then advanced on Fiorini's single. A sacrifice bunt brought Perilli across home plate. Etown was able to score on another Norwich error to close out the inning with a 7-2 lead. Etown scored their final two runs in the fifth and sixth to win, 9-3.
Fiorini went 2 for 4 with one run and one RBI.
Aidan Casey started his first collegiate game pitching 3.2 innings and striking out five.
Caeden Schulte made his first appearance, pitching 2.1 innings totaling four strikeouts.
