WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. -- Lycoming used a strong second half to break a halftime tie to beat the Elizabethtown College women's lacrosse team on Saturday at UPMC Field.
Lauren Puntanen had a career-high five goals to lead the Blue Jays.
Elizabethtown trailed 3-0 through the first two minutes, but goals from
Megan Meyer and Puntanen got the Jays back within a goal by the 11:16 mark of the first. The Warriors led by two goals again, twice, but it was
Ella Scholes and
Drew Bridges each scoring in the final three minutes of the first to make it a 5-5 game going into the second.
Though Lyco scored first to retake the lead, the Blue Jays netted three consecutive to grab their first lead of the game as Meyer,
Jordyn Hironimus, and Scholes tallied to bring it to 8-6 with 10:49 left before half.
The Warriors got level at 8-8, but Etown build its lead back up to two on consecutive Puntanen goals, though Lycoming scored two in the final 2:17, similar to the end of the first for Elizabethtown, and sent the game into halftime knotted at 11-11.
Puntanen again scored twice in a row to give the Jays a 13-11 edge, but Lycoming would go on a 6-0 run to close out the third quarter as they led by four, 17-13, entering the fourth.
Elizabethtown couldn't get out of the hole as the Warriors outscored the Jays 4-3 in the fourth to take it, 21-16.
Meyer tied her career highs with four goals and five points in the game for EC.
The Blue Jays host Juniata on Wednesday, April 2, at 6 p.m.
