Men’s Volleyball Splits with Drew and Lehman

MADISON, NJ.—The Elizabethtown men's volleyball team dropped a 3-2 decision to Drew in CVC play before defeating Lehman, 3-1 Saturday.

GAME 1: DREW 3, ELIZABETHTOWN 2 (22-25, 25-21, 25-21, 23-25, 15-17)
Braydon Ambruster led the match with 19 kills, Logan Smith totaled 15 kills and seven digs while Arun Gopinath totaled 12 kills and nine digs. Ethan Scott tallied a double-double of 44 assists and 14 digs while Dustin Hagin added 12 digs. Josh McCoy grabbed four block assists and eight kills.

The Blue Jays dropped the first set before defeating Drew, 25-21 in sets two and three. The Blue Jays came out 6-1 early in the second set. The Rangers chipped away at Etown's lead before Smith put down a kill to keep the Jays in the lead at 11-8. Four in a row from Drew then four in a row from Etown brought the score to 16-13. Blue Jay blocks by Cole Burkhardt and Gopinath ended the set, 25-21.
Set three saw Drew start off with a 6-4 lead after recording three straight. After trading points two Ambruster kills sandwiched one from Burkhardt, giving Etown the 13-11 lead. Once again after four straight from Etown then four from Drew the Rangers trailed Etown 18-17. Kills from Smith, Ambruster, Gopinath and McCoy gave the Blue Jays the 25-21 win.

After a 25-23 loss in the fourth set, Elizabethtown had forced a fifth set against Drew. The Rangers grabbed the lead early at 7-4. Drew then reached set-point at 14-12 with a kill before the Jays would force extra points. After three straight from Etown, Drew rattled off three straight to win, 17-15.

GAME 2: ELIZABETHTOWN 3, LEHMAN 1 (25-27, 25-19, 25-15, 25-17)
Gopinath led the match with 17 kills while Declan Keller totaled a career-high of 16 kills. Patrick Neyer totaled 38 assists and 20 digs for a double-double and career-highs.

Elizabethtown struggled in set one, trading points with Lehman but ultimately falling, 27-25. Etown got back into it in set two as they led 11-8 after four straight points. The two teams went back-n-forth before the Blue Jays rattled off four in a row to lead, 20-16 after two kills sandwiched Lehman errors. Etown ended the set on a 5-0 run to win, 25-19.

Set three was tight before Elizabethtown jumped to a 16-7 lead after tallying six in a row. A kill from Keller and an ace from Gopinath extended the Jays lead by ten-points. Trey Weedon and Gopinath ended the set, 25-15 with kills.

Etown started strong in set four as they led 10-4 early after recording four points in a row. The Blue Jays held a considerably large lead through the set to give them the 25-17 win.
