WILKES-BARRE, Pa.—The Elizabethtown men's volleyball team picked up their second CVC win of the season, Friday evening as they defeated Wilkes, 3-2.
Logan Smith recorded a double-double of 19 kills & 10 digs!
Braydon Ambruster totaled 14 kills.
Dustin Hagin grabbed 10 digs while
Ethan Scott tallied 35 assists.
Mason Boyer had 6 of the team's 8 aces!
Set scores were 25-18, 25-18, 18-25, 20-25, 15-9.
Both teams were symmetrical in the stat sheet with Elizabethtown having 49 kills to the Colonels 48. Both teams struggled at the serving line but the Blue Jays held an 8-3 advantage in aces. The Blue Jays were able to win the first two sets, 25-18.
Set one saw Etown jump to an 11-6 lead after rattling off five straight points. The Blue Jays then pulled out to a 17-10 lead after kills from Boyer,
Craig Patrick, and Ambruster. The two traded points towards the end of the set but Etown's lead was too large for Wilkes as they won 25-18. Set two was just the same as Elizabethtown led by ten-points at 17-7. Two straight kills from Smith extended the Jays lead even further to 21-9. Wilkes gained momentum at the end but it wasn't enough as Etown took the set 25-18.
The Blue Jays struggled in the following two sets with gaps too large to overcome as they fell, 25-18 and 25-20.
Etown was able to get up early to be able to make the net switch at 8-5. The Blue Jays rattled off the next four to take a 12-6 lead with help from Patrick and Ambruster. The Blue Jays and Colonels traded points until the end as Smith and Ambruster smacked down the final kills for Etown to win 15-9.
Etown is back on the road tomorrow to face host Drew in a CVC match followed by a match against Lehman.
