ELIZABEHTOWN, Pa.-- The Elizabethtown men's volleyball team hosted #5 Juniata in a CVC match Wednesday evening where the Eagles defeated the Blue Jays, 3-1.
Logan Smith led the match with 16 kills (.424) and six digs.
Braydon Ambruster totaled 12 kills and four digs.
Ethan Scott tallied 38 assists while
Dustin Hagin grabbed nine digs.
To begin set one, Elizabethtown came out to a 5-2 lead after kills from Smith,
Mason Boyer, Ambruster, and
Craig Patrick. Juniata soon tied things up 5-5 before the two teams traded points throughout the set. Patrick tied up the set for Etown at 18-18 following a kill before the Eagles recorded three in a row to take a 21-18 lead. The Blue Jays came back 22-21 after rattling off four straight. Juniata finished the set on a 4-1 run to win 25-23.
Set two saw Juniata lead 7-3 early. Two back-to-back kills from Ambruster brought Etown within two of the Eagles. After some back-n-forth two Blue Jay errors extended Juniata's lead 19-14. A 5-2 run by Juniata brought the team to set-point. A kill from Boyer and an ace from
Ben Robbins kept the set going before Juniata put down a kill to win 25-20.
Etown started off with a 5-3 lead after tallying three straight. The Eagles then took the lead after recording three in a row before the two teams traded points. The Blue Jays trailed by three after kills from Smith and Ambruster. Three straight from the Jays brought the team back within one of the Eagles at 18-17. Etown finished out the set with major momentum as
Arun Gopinath, Smith, and Boyer put down kills for Etown to win, 25-22.
Juniata jumped to an 8-5 lead to start set four. After going on a 5-1 run the Eagles held a 13-7 lead. Ambruster smacked down two kills in a row followed by kills from Gopinath and Patrick to come back within four of the Eagles at 18-14. A Juniata error then an Etown ace were the Blue Jays final two points before Juniata won, 25-17.
Elizabethtown travels to Wilkes this Friday at 7 pm for another CVC match.
