Multiple Blue Jays Reach Career-Highs in Four-Set Win over Widener

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa.-- In a thrilling four-set match against Widener, Monday evening the Elizabethtown men's volleyball team came up with the 3-1 win. Set scores were 28-26, 25-19, 40-42, 25-22. 

Mason Boyer & Ethan Scott both recorded a double-double. Scott recorded a career-high 53 assists, smashing his previous of 39. Boyer grabbed a career-high 11 digs. Braydon Ambruster totaled a career-high 25 kills.

In the first set, Elizabethtown led the way at 12-11 until Widener went on a 5-0 to take a 16-12 lead. Kills from Boyer, Logan Smith, and Ambruster led the way for Etown to tie up the set 18-18. Ambruster smacked down the Jays 24th point before the Pride took the next three, forcing extra points. Three straight from Etown with the help from Boyer and Ambruster earned the Blue Jays the 28-26 win. 

Set two saw Etown jump to a 9-5 early lead. After trading points the Blue Jays went on a 5-1 run to extend their lead by eight at 21-13. Widener managed to come back within five but it wasn't enough as Cole Burkhardt ended the set 25-19 with a kill. 

Set three was tight throughout as the two teams would force a lot of extra points. Boyer smacked down set-point for Etown before Widener responded to bring the set to 24-25. After several back and forth attempts and several errors later Widener would come out on top 42-40 as they grabbed the final three points in a row. 

Set four also started close as Widener took an early 10-8 lead. The Pride rattled off three straight before Etown responded with three of their own to tie it up at 14-14. Ambruster, Arun Gopinath, Josh McCoy and Smith tallied kills on the Jays next several points. Three straight from Eliizabethtown brought the score to 23-19; Etown. Ambruster put down the final two kills for the Blue Jays to win 25-22. 

Elizabethtow is back at home this Wednesday to host Juniata in a CVC match.
