READING, Pa.-- Senior,
Lauren Puntanen led the Elizabethtown women's lacrosse team with a career-high four goals in the 9-7 win over Alvernia, Wednesday afternoon.
Puntanen also picked up three ground balls and caused three turnovers.
Megan Gress totaled two goals while
Megan Meyer and
Drew Bridges each added one goal.
Ella Scholes and
Abby Bach tallied two assists each while Meyer added one.
Rachel Murphy also made 14 saves in goal.
The Blue Jays were quick to start as Gress recorded Etown's first goal just over the first minute. Gress scored her second goal of the game in the 11th minute just before Alvernia got one the board. Elizabethtown ended the first quarter up, 3-1 after a goal from Meyer on a feed from Scholes. Alvernia took control in the second, taking a 5-3 lead before the Bridges would find the net with just under four minutes remaining.
Puntanen got things started in the third for Etown with a game tying goal. The Golden Wolves were able to again retake the lead before Scholes and Meyer would assist Puntanen and
Madison Hennelly on the Jays sixth and seventh goals. Puntanen was able to keep the Golden Wolves at bay in the fourth with two more goals that included one off a free position shot and the other on a woman-up opportunity. At 4:40, Alvernia scored the final goal of the game as Elizabethtown pulled off the 9-7 win.
Elizabethtown will face Simmons in Clearwater, Fla. on March 5.
