Four in double figures for #22/19 Women's Basketball in win over Drew

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- Junior Makenna Mummert led all scorers with a game-high 13 points and was one of four players in double figures for the Elizabethtown College women's basketball team in their 77-57 win over Drew in Thompson Gymnasium Wednesday night. The win was the 15th of the season for the Blue Jays, which marks a new single-season best for the program since joining the league in 2014-15.

Elizabethtown got up on Drew right away and led 10-0 with over half the quarter gone. Mummert drilled a three on the first possession of the game, Ella Gordon found DaniRae Renno for the bucket down low, Summer McNulty knocked down a three, and Mummert finished off the 10-0 spurt with a jumper to force Drew into a timeout.

Kamryn Mengel had five of the team's final seven points, hitting the third three of the quarter for the Jays and then a jumper in the paint two possessions later. Grace O'Connor's jumper was good with 1:07 to go as Etown shot 7-for-11 in the first, including 3-for-4 from three and led 17-10.

The pace picked up in the second as Elizabethtown outscored Drew 21-12 on another solid shooting quarter for EC. Renno, Mummert, and McNulty each had multiple makes in the second with Allyia Kennedy, Cyleigh Wilson, and Mengel contributing as well. Meanwhile, the Blue Jays were also doing the work defensively to frustrate the Rangers. They held Drew to 9-for-33 from the field over the first half of play. Gianna Pica and Amy Rachilla, the Rangers' leading scorers, were a combined 1-for-8 with two points at the half.

Even with a 15-minute break for halftime, Etown hadn't cooled off, hitting at a 50-percent clip in the third thanks to plenty of points in the paint (16-4). Seven different players scored, led by six from Renno and Kennedy. Gordon and Wilson each hit a three in the quarter as well. The Jays were 9-for-18 from deep, their fourth-best shooting performance from beyond the arc this season and fourth time hitting at least half their threes (at least 10 attempts). Drew was held to 4-for-15 in the third, but did make all four free throw attempts.

Pica and Rachilla ended the night 7-for-21 combined for the Rangers. Mummert led the way with 13 for Etown, with Renno going for 12 and 7. McNulty and Kennedy each had 10 apiece. Jess King grabbed seven boards and O'Connor scored six and had five rebounds.

Elizabethtown will host Scranton in the regular season finale on Saturday, February 22, at 2 p.m.
