WILKES-BARRE, Pa. -- Graduate student
Cyleigh Wilson became the 32nd player in Elizabethtown College women's basketball history to reach 1,000 career points on Saturday in the Blue Jays' win at Wilkes. Wilson also became the Landmark Conference's career leader in three-point makes.
Wilson, who only needed 10 points to reach 1,000 and one three to became the league's new three-point leader, didn't waste much time hitting the latter. Down 5-1, Wilson drilled a three on the fastbreak, her 238th career three-pointer, surpassing Bridgette Mann's former record of 237 (Scranton, 2015-19).
Wilson's jumper on the break with just under 3:30 left in the second was the bucket to reach the 1,000-point milestone. After leading by seven after the first, the Blue Jays opened up the lead in the second and third quarters, outscoring Wilkes 43-21.
Ellie Fasick,
Kamryn Mengel,
Grace O'Connor, and
Lindsay Boyd helped stretch the lead beyond 20. Boyd had a season-high 12 points to pace the Jays. Fasick and Wilson were the others in double figures with 10 apiece.
Cadence Anderson and
Ashley Adamson hit back-to-back threes for the Jays in the fourth.
Kiley Wilhelm knocked down two at the line,
Alex Gonzalez canned a three, and
Jess Pronchick nailed a jumper as 15 different players recorded points for Etown in the win.
The Blue Jays will host Drew on Wednesday, February 19, at 7 p.m.
