ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa.-The Elizabethtown men's basketball team earned their second win over Goucher this season as four Blue Jays reached double figures.
Rance Russo led the game with 22 points while going 9 for 14 from the floor.
EJ Finney totaled 17 points while grabbing six rebounds and tallying eight assists.
Austin Finarelli added 12 points and three steals while
Ben Stanton totaled 11 points while going 3 for 4 from the arch.
To start the game Elizabethtown led 9-6 after a pair of Russo free throws. The Blue Jays struggled from the foul line throughout the game, going 5 for 11 in the first half. Points from Finarelli and a three from Stanton kept the Jays leading 16-10 in the 11
th minute. A few minutes later, Russo sunk a three to extend Etown's lead by nine points. In the final three minutes, the Gophers were able to come back within three of Etown before a layup and a 3-pointer at the end of the half left the Blue Jays leading 37-29 at halftime.
In the second, Goucher free throws sandwiched a three before Russo and Finarelli layups kept Etown in the lead early. Back-to-back points by Finney featuring a dunk on a fast break pushed the Jays lead to 11. Two straight layups from Russo extended Elizabethtown's lead to 56-43 in the 12
th minute. The Blue Jays kept gaining momentum as three's from Stanton and
Augie Brody brought the score to 66-49. With six minutes remaining, Etown grabbed their largest lead of 24 points. Goucher was able to chip away at some of the lead but Elizabethtown came up with the 85-70 win.
Elizabethtown will travel to Wilkes this Saturday, February 15
th at 4 pm.
