ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- For only the second time in the series history, Arcadia beat the Elizabethtown College women's basketball team Tuesday night in non-conference action at Thompson Gym. The Knights used a three-point barrage to sink the Blue Jays, 82-68.
Cadence Anderson and
Allyia Kennedy each had 17 points for Etown.
The Jays were out to a flying start in the first quarter, hitting 9 of their 17 attempts to take a 24-18 lead into the second quarter. Arcadia drained four treys in the opening quarter to help keep pace.
The Knights would take over in the second quarter. Elizabethtown ran into some turnover issues to provide Arcadia with a number of additional possession, which turned out to be dangerous because the Knights hit on nearly 60 percent of their shots in the second. They would outscore EC 23-9 to lead by eight at the half, 41-33.
Arcadia had five players that knocked down at least one triple, led by two from Abby Beam and Hanna Rhoades. Rhoades would lead all scorers on the night with 24 by game's end.
The Blue Jays were able to rack up the points in the point, 38 for the game, but the three-point shooting helped cancel that out as the Knights hit 12 total, their fourth game this season with at least 10 or more and their second-best performance from a percentage standpoint (12-27, .444).
Ellie Fasick's layup early in the third quarter had the Jays within four points, 43-39, but another three was the answer by Arcadia at the other end to shoot it right back up to seven. A 10-0 run by the Knights pushed their lead into double digits at 16 before Anderson's layup out of a timeout.
Arcadia was also dominant at the free throw line, hitting 14 out of 15 attempts. The Knights shot .475 for the game with their three-point prowess a real difference maker in the win.
Elizabethtown will head on the road at Ursinus on Saturday, January 3, at 3 p.m.
