ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- Senior
Allyia Kennedy, the reigning Landmark Athlete of the Week, posted a double-double to lead all scorers as the No. 14/17 Elizabethtown College women's basketball team breezed by Drew Wednesday night, 59-39. Three Blue Jays were in double figures, including
Cadence Anderson and
Ellie Fasick.
Kennedy had six of Elizabethtown's first eight points and the seniors scored the first ten in the game as
Makenna Mummert and Fasick helped the Jays out to a 10-2 lead through the first five minutes of action.
Anderson added 13 points off the bench and immediately after subbing in, recorded the and-one with 4:17 to go in the first quarter to extend Etown's lead to nine.
The Blue Jays were off to a blistering start from the field in the game, shooting just over 50 percent in the first quarter as they led 19-10, then nearly 70 percent in second quarter, hitting nine of 13 attempts. They finished the first half 17-for-28 (60.7 percent) and hit half of their threes, including a pair from Kennedy.
Kennedy, Fasick, and Anderson were a combined 13-for-17 for 32 of the team's 41 first-half points. EC led 41-18 at the break.
Elizabethtown only managed six field goals in the second half, but with a big enough cushion between them and the Rangers, and Drew unable to capitalize on the Etown misses, the Jays still ended the night with a 20-point victory to stay unbeaten in Landmark play at 3-0.
Kennedy provided 18 points and 10 rebounds, her first double-double of the season. Fasick was 5-for-6 from the floor and hit a pair at the foul line while grabbing nine boards. Anderson dropped in a pair of threes off the bench, part of her 13 points.q
Etown held Drew to its lowest scoring output of the season and their worst shooting performance of the year at under 30 percent (.291).
The Blue Jays are on the road at Goucher on Saturday, Dec. 6, at 4 p.m.
