Dickinson pulls away in second half to defeat Blue Jays

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- After seven straight to open the season, the Elizabethtown College women's basketball team suffered its second consecutive defeat on Saturday as Dickinson pulled away in the second half to beat the Blue Jays, 66-49. Cadence Anderson had a team-high 16 points.

Makenna Mummert, Ellie Fasick, and Anderson each connected on baskets in the first two minutes of the game as Elizabethtown went out early 6-0.

The Red Devils responded with seven straight points to take the lead over the next two minutes after Lizzie McGrath drilled a three. A late free throw from Anderson gave Etown a 13-12 lead going into the second.

Dickinson's first four points of the second quarter came from the foul line. They would finish the game 20-for-26 from the line while the Jays were uncharacteristically sloppy from the free throw line, hittong on only 10 of their 17 attempts.

Elizabethtown went cold from the field over a four-minute span while the Red Devils built up a seven-point lead at 22-15. Off the bench, Ashley Adamson provided a spark for the EC offense, hitting a floating along the baseline before knocking down a three of Mummert's steal two possessions later. Anderson connected on a second straight made three that put Etown back in front 23-22 with 2:13 left in the first half.

Dickinson got a late foul shot to take a 26-25 lead into halftime.

The Red Devils would win the final two quarters by eight points each, outscoring Elizabethtown 18-10 in the third and 22-14 in the fourth on the backs of nearly 50 percent shooting while holding the Blue Jays to under 30 percent in that same span.

McGrath and forward Mia Chapman were both in double figures for Dickinson. McGrath had a game-high 17 points.

Anderson and Mummert each hit two threes for Etown as they both finished in double digits, Mummert with 15 in addition to Anderson's 16 points, a new career-high.

Elizabethtown will host Arcadia on December 30 at 6 p.m. in their final game of 2025.
