WINCHESTER, Va.—The Elizabethtown men's basketball team went on to win their fifth straight as they defeated Shenandoah, 68-65 on the road Sunday.
Ben Stanton led the team with a season-high 15 points as he went 5 for 8 beyond the arch.
Zuri Harris totaled 13 points while
Austin Finarelli added 11 points and three steals while also going 7 for 8 from the foul line.
Shenandoah opened the scoring, taking an early 5-0 lead. At the 16 minute mark, Harris sunk the team's first of eight three's in the game to take a 9-7 lead. Several minutes later, Stanton stepped back for his first 3-pointer of the game. The Hornets went on a 9-0 run retaking the lead at 21-14. Shenandoah continued to hold on to the lead until a Finarelli jumper tied it up at 30-30 with two minutes remaining. Going into halftime, the Blue Jays led the Hornets 34-32.
After two Hornet free throws to start the second,
Anthony Lilly made a layup to bring the score to 36-35. Midway through the half, Shenandoah grabbed a 49-44 lead.
Augie Brody sunk a three at 8:30 before
Woody Machado tied up the game 50-50. The two teams traded baskets before Etown was able to start to pull away with just over two minutes left. Back-to-back layups by Harris put the team up 60-57. Lilly,
EJ Finney, and Machado tallied points to end the game with a 68-65 win.
Etown will host Immaculata on Tuesday in their final game of the year.
