ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa.—In a defensive battle, the Elizabethtown men's basketball team showed resiliency against Lebanon Valley as they outscored the Dutchmen, 49-34 in the second half.
Austin Finarelli led the game with a season-high 32 points while
Woody Machado recorded a season-high 19 points.
The Blue Jays struggled the first half shooting 53% from the floor and 15% from the arch. Lebanon Valley went up 11-8 early within the first six minutes of the game. The Dutchmen then went up 25-10 after a 14-0 run. Etown slowly began to chip away at LVC lead with baskets from Finarelli and
Crew Wells. Finarelli and
Brandon Ascione sunk back-to-back three's to come within nine of the Dutchmen.
With five minutes left, points from Machado kept the Blue Jays trailing by nine. A minute later,
Zuri Harris made a layup to bring the score to 41-36; LVC. To end the half, LVC had pulled ahead 55-43.
Etown started the second half making back-to-back layups. A three from Harris and layups from Finarelli and Machado cut the Dutchmen's lead to just four. Midway through the half,
Ben Stanton dropped in a three bringing the score to 65-62. LVC fought to keep the score tight and with under five minutes remaining the Dutchmen extended their lead by six points. Back-to-back jumpers from Finarelli brought the team back within two. The two teams traded points through the end of the half with Etown coming out on top, 92-89 as Finarelli secured the win with free-throws.
Etown will travel to Drew on Dec. 3.
