MADISON, NJ.—For the first time since the 2014-15 season, the Elizabethtown men's basketball team defeated #20 Drew, 95-93 in overtime.
Austin Finarelli led the game with a season-high 33 points.
Zuri Harris recorded a career-high of 26 points going 7 for 9 from the arch.
EJ Finney added 15 points and grabbed three steals.
Drew opened up the first half with a large, 20-7 lead within the first eight minutes of play. Etown started to chip away at the Rangers lead with help from Machado, Finarelli, and
Brandon Ascione. The Blue Jays then went on an 11-0 run, tying up the game at 29-29. For the next several minutes the two teams traded free throws before Drew pulled ahead 41-34 with just over a minute remaining. At the buzzer of first half, Harris hit a turn around jumper. Etown trailed, 44-36 going into halftime.
The Rangers jumped out to a 50-37 lead to start the second half after back-to-back three's. About midway through the half, Harris hit two straight 3-pointers as Etown continued trailing, 65-50. Minutes later, the Blue Jays cut the Rangers lead to 69-57. A 9-3 run with another three from Harris brought the Jays within seven of the Rangers. With two minutes remaining, Finarelli made a layup to trail Drew 79-77 and then with just one second remaining, Finarelli tied up the game at 81-81 to force overtime.
In the overtime period, Etown and Drew traded 3-pointers. Two back-to-back layups from the Jays brought the score to 88-89. Finarelli made his final two free-throws giving Etown the 95-93 to earn the win.
Etown will travel to Goucher on Saturday at 2 pm.
