Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Mummert sets new single-game record in #22 Elizabethtown's double overtime win at Haverford

HAVERFORD, Pa. -- Senior Makenna Mummert became the first player in Elizabethtown College women's basketball program history to record 40 or more points in a game as the Blue Jays overcame a double digit deficit and beat Haverford in double overtime, 115-104.

Mummert and Allyia Kennedy were responsible for the first 10 points for Elizabethtown as they led early, but a hot start from beyond the arc got Haverford back into the game quickly in the first quarter. The Fords hit 5-of-7 from three over the opening 10 minutes and shot 60 percent overall to take a 25-17 lead into the second.

A quick flurry from Mummert, four of the Jays' six points right away in the second kept Etown in it. Down 35-23, her layup combined with an Ella Gordon three and Ellie Fasick's layup took that 12-point deficit and cut it to five, 35-30.

Every time Haverford attempted to get away, Elizabethtown stuck around and stayed in it. Down seven, another bucket inside for Fasick followed up by Cadence Anderson's three-pointer made it a two-point game just like that. Etown shot 10-for-15 in the second quarter and trailed by a basket at the break, 41-39.

The Fords hit consecutive threes to begin the third as the Blue Jays took a quick timeout to regroup. Out of the timeout, Kamryn Mengel, who had gotten to the hoop several times in the second quarter, drained a three from the top of the key to make it 49-46. Later in the quarter, Mummert dropped in two foul shots to reach her new career high of 24 points, but there was still plenty in the tank from the senior. She was 10-for-16 through three quarters with 27 points and a new career high of seven made free throws. EC trailed 61-58.

Kiley Wilhelm hit a three on the first possession of the fourth for Etown and Mengel came through with another one that tied it up at 64-64. After hitting only one three last weekend against Rowan, Elizabethtown was much more efficient from the three-point line, shooting 50 percent in the game (7-14).

Mengel connected on back to back driving layups that gave the Jays the lead, 68-67, to force Haverford into a timeout. The Fords would go nearly four minutes without a field goal while Etown went on a 10-0 run, kicked off by Mengel's layups.

EC had the lead late, but Haverford was able to pull even and force overtime at 80-80. One overtime then wasn't enough as each team scored 16 a piece and needed a second overtime.

The Blue Jays took off in OT2 and would go 14-for-16 at the foul line to set a new team record with 32 made free throws and pull away from Haverford.

Mummert finished the game with 46 points, the most since Lydia Lawson's 37 points in 2019. Her 15 made field goals are tied for the fourth-most in a game while her 16 made free throws are tied for second most in a contest. Mengel added 15 points and Wilhelm finished with 14.

Elizabethtown's 38 made field goals are tied for the fourth most in a game and their field goal percentage of .521 is 11th best in team history.

The Blue Jays begin Landmark play at Moravian on Wednesday, November 19, at 7 p.m.
