GRANTHAM, Pa.—A 52-point first half helped the Elizabethtown men's basketball team defeat Messiah, 88-72 on the road.
Zuri Harris led the team from the bench with career-high 18 points and ten rebounds for a double-double.
Woody Machado also recorded a double-double of 16 points and 16 rebounds.
Austin Finarelli and
EJ Finney each totaled 15 points.
Five minutes into the first half, Etown led 10-8 following a layup from Finney. Midway through the half, the Blue Jays had pulled ahead, 29-22 after layups from Harris and Finney. A
Ben Stanton free-throw brought Etown out to a double-digit lead before the Falcons came back within four at the seven-minute mark. Finarelli,
Anthony Lilly, and Finney dropped in layups bringing the Jays out to a 43-32 lead. With five minutes left in the half the Blue Jays extended their lead by 16-points before going into halftime with a 52-40 lead.
Machado and Harris sunk three's to start the second half. Midway through the half, Harris hit a 3-pointer extending Etown's lead to 68-50. Two buckets in a row from Finarelli held the Blue Jays 18-point lead. Following several free-throws Etown led by 20-points. Just under five minutes remaining, Harris added three from beyond the arch. The lead was too great for Messiah as Etown won, 88-72.
Etown hosts Rosemont this Saturday at 2 pm.
