ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa.—The Elizabethtown field hockey team grabbed their first Landmark Conference win of the season in dominating fashion as the Blue Jays defeated Juniata, 9-0.
A program-high of nine goals is the most in a game since 2014.
Drew Bridges led the team with a hat-trick and two assists while
Hannah Long totaled two goals and three assists.
Sophie Myers scored her first career goals as she tapped in two.
Abbie Heckman and
Rachel Troutman each recorded one goal.
Etown didn't take long to get on the board as Long found Myers shortly following a penalty corner. In the second quarter the Blue Jays scored a flurry of goals tallying four in 15 minutes. Long and Bridges struck quickly in the second with goals just a minute apart. Up 3-0 over the Eagles, at the 23-minute mark Bridges from the right side found Heckman dead center for Etown's fourth goal. About five minutes later, Long dribbled past the Eagle's goalie extending the team's lead to 5-0.
Etown outshot the Eagles 10-1 in the first half and 23-4 in the game.
It was then Troutman's turn to get into the goal-scoring column. Following a foul in arch the Blue Jays were awarded a penalty stroke. Troutman fired off the shot in the top left corner for the Blue Jays sixth goal. In the 37
th minute, Bridges added her second goal assisted by Long.
Myers and Bridges closed out Etown's scoring in the fourth quarter with the team's eight and ninth goals.
The Blue Jays return home Saturday for a big conference game against Scranton.
