ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa.—Senior,
Drew Bridges of the Elizabethtown field hockey team knocked in the equalizer in the third quarter, but it wasn't enough as Scranton tapped in two in the fourth quarter to win, 3-1.
Emma Dupes made eight saves in goal while
Hannah Long (3),
Kaylie Noel and
Sydney Sinko contributed to the defense with defensive saves.
Scranton out shot Etown, 18-10, while also earning more penalty corners, 13-5.
The Royals were quick to start as they got off their first goal of the at the 1:19 minute mark. After a brief possession by the Blue Jays it was all Scranton from their as they tallied nine shots in the first quarter. Etown took control in the second quarter outshooting the Royals, 6-2. Bridges, Long,
Sophie Myers, and Noel made several attempts at the goal but most were saved by the Royals goalie, Maclean Thuermer.
There was not much action from either team in the third quarter after
Hailey Meyer assisted Bridges in the 31
st minute to tie up the game 1-1. The final quarter was all Scranton with the game tied the Royals saw the need for urgency. Scranton was able to capitalize in the 49
th and 53
rd minutes to secure their 3-1 win over Etown.
The Blue Jays will travel to Catholic on Wednesday, Oct. 15.
