Field Hockey Cruises Past Catholic

WASHINGTON, D.C.—For the first time since 2016, the Elizabethtown field hockey team defeated Catholic, 5-1 on Wednesday evening.

Kaylie Noel and Calleigh Hoy recorded their first career goals. Drew Bridges led the team with two goals. Sophie Myers tallied her third goal of the season while Hannah Long grabbed two assists.

Etown held a 16-13 edge in shots and a 13-10 edge in corners.

Catholic started with possession early in the first quarter as they earned two back-to-back corners. In between corners following a Cardinals shot, Long made two defensive saves. The Blue Jays took over midway through the quarter recording their first goal of the game at 11:48. From the top of the arch Long found Noel for a straight shot into the goal. Etown was quick to act in the second quarter as
Bridges dribbled around the goalie for the Jays second goal.  At the half, Etown led Catholic, 2-0.

To start the third quarter the Cardinals earned a corner before the rest of the quarter was all Blue Jays. In the 34th minute and 40th minute Etown tacked on two more goals. Bridges scored her second before Long assisted Hoy on Etown's fourth goal.

In the fourth quarter with just under ten minutes remaining, Myers lifted the ball above the defense past the Cardinals goalie. With just three minutes left in the game, Catholic scored their lone goal.

Etown heads to Lycoming this Saturday for another Landmark Conference game.
