Field Hockey Grounds Gophers on Senior Day

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa.—The Elizabethtown field hockey team came out on top, 3-2 in a defensive thriller against Goucher on senior day. Prior to the game, Drew Bridges, Lillian Hoover and Rachel Troutman were honored.

Bridges led the team with two goals while Hannah Long tallied two assists. Hailey Meyer scored the game-winner from Long.

Goucher struck first following an Etown foul in the arch, the Gophers scored their first goal on a penalty stroke. After taking some time to figure out the Goucher defense, the Blue Jays held possession for a majority of the second quarter. After a scoreless first half for the Blue Jays, Etown and Goucher were even with seven shots apiece.

Going into the third quarter the Blue Jays kept up their momentum, earning eight corners. Meadow Keet, Long, Sophie Myers, Sara Watson, Bridges, and Troutman took shots in the quarter, but they all were unsuccessful in finding the back of the goal until the 36th minute. In the 36th minute, Long found Bridges for the Blue Jays' first goal. In the final minute of third, Goucher responded to retake the lead, 2-1.

Early in the fourth quarter, Bridges rolled around a Gopher defender to tie up the game, 2-2. After several corners, Long assisted Meyer on the game-winner where Meyer was able to tap in the ball into the left corner.

Etown will face Moravian next Wednesday in their final game of the regular season.
