WILKES-BARRE, Pa.-- Senior,
Lucy Stern grabbed her 1,000th career-dig as the Elizabethtown women's volleyball team split against Wilkes and Montclair St. The Blue Jays earned their first Landmark Conference win against Wilkes before falling to Montclair St.
GAME 1: WILKES 1, ELIZABETHTOWN 3 (25-23, 25-27, 25-21, 25-19)
The team put up a season-high 13 total blocks.
Ida Fisher's eight total blocks were a career high.
Angela Ouimet grabbed her first double-double of the season totaling 38 assists and 10 digs.
Bailey McFeaters recorded a career-high 14 kills.
Wilkes jumped out to a 10-2 lead to start off set one. Four straight from Etown brought the team within three of the Colonels. Later the Jays rattled off six in a row with the help from two aces by
Emma Rizzutto. Two straight kills from Fisher brought the score to 20-21. Etown finished off the set with a 5-1 run to win 25-23. Etown started off with the lead early in the second set before the two teams would trade points throughout. The Blue Jays hit set-point following a
Sam Lautenslager block, but Wilkes went on a 6-1 run to win the set 27-25 in extras.
Set two saw Etown start off with a 7-2 lead following two kills from the Jays. Shortly after the Colonels tied up the set at 11-11 and then took the lead. Kills from Fisher, McFeaters, and
Kate Barbon gave Etown back their lead at 18-15. Service aces from Ouimet ended the set with a 25-21 Blue Jay win.
Set four was tight throughout following the five-point lead by the Blue Jays, Wilkes came back within three. Blocks from
Alexa Adamek and Fisher put up Etown, 19-13. From there the Colonels were unable to catch up as the Blue Jays won, 25-19.
GAME 2: ELIZABETHTOWN 1, MONTCLAIR ST. 3 (21-25, 25-11, 11-25, 18-25)
In route to her 1000
th career-dig, Stern grabbed 10 digs. Barbon, Fisher, and
Addy Reed each totaled nine kills while Reed also grabbed 17 digs.
Set one was the closest set of the match with Montclair St. winning, 25-21. The set was close to start as Barbon and Fisher put down kills. Kills from McFeaters, Ouiment, Fisher, and Adamek extended the Blue Jays lead to 16-14. Montclair St. finished out the set on a 7-1 run to win, 25-21.
Etown handedly took down the Red Hawks in set two, 25-11. Holding a 12-7 lead, Etown rattled off ten straight to earn a substantial 22-8 lead. Reed and
Hope Young contributed for the Jays final three points to win, 25-11. The Red Hawks flipped the script in set three as they downed Etown, 25-11.
To begin set four, Montclair St. led 10-3. Kills from Fisher left the team trailing 10-7. Gaining momentum the Red Hawks went up 17-8 with the lead. The Blue Jays came back within four of Montclair St. following kills from Ouimet, Barbon and Mcfeaters. Fisher smacked down one final kill before the Red Hawks took the final four points to win, 25-18.
