Scranton Pulls Away in the Fourth to Defeat Blue Jays on Homecoming

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa.-- In a game of back and forth goals and great defensive efforts, the Elizabethtown field hockey team fell to visiting Scranton, 6-3 on Homecoming.

Hannah Long led the team with two goals while Rachel Troutman added a goal and an assist. Hailey Meyer also recorded her first career assist.

Scranton struck first following a penalty corner midway through the first quarter. Two minutes later the Royals made it 2-0. Troutman got one back for Etown late in the second quarter. Off a corner, H. Meyer inserted the ball on the left side to Troutman who lifted the ball high and over the Royals goalie.

Elizabethtown would open the third quarter with a tying goal as Long scored unassisted. Three minutes later, Scranton responded retaking the lead. Following two back to back Scranton shots, saved by Angelina Giglio-Tos the Royals doubled their lead off a penalty stroke. In the 42nd minute, Troutman assisted Long for the Blue Jays third goal of the game. After Etown was awarded a corner early in the fourth, Scranton took over from there. The Royals would notch two more goals within three minutes of each other to win, 6-3.

Elizabethtown will travel to Alvernia this coming Tuesday, October 1 at 7 p.m.
