Blue Jays Fall Short at Alvernia

READING, Pa.-- Junior, Drew Bridges scored two for the Elizabethtown field hockey team Tuesday at Alvernia but it wasn't enough as the Golden Wolves won, 3-2.

Alvernia was quick to start scoring their first goal within the first five minutes of the game. After several Blue Jay attempts on goal, Etown broke free in the 26th minute following a penalty corner. Hannah Long assisted Bridges to even the score at 1-1. Just two minutes later, the Golden Wolves retook the lead.

In the third quarter after several consecutive shots, Alvernia extended their lead to 3-1 just minutes into the third quarter. Ten minutes later, Bridges responded with Etown's second goal to come within one of Alvernia. Bridges took the lone Etown shot in the fourth quarter but it wasn't enough as Lexi Boettcher made the save in goal.

Alvernia out shot Elizabethtown, 17-11. Angelina Giglio-Tos and Lily DeBlasio made a combined eight saves in goal for Etown.

Elizabethtown will return to conference play this Saturday, October 5 as they travel to Drew at 12 PM.
