ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa.-- The Elizabethtown women's volleyball team earned their first sweep of the season after defeating Wilson inside Thompson Gymnasium, Thursday. With the win, Etown moves to 8-4 on the season.
The first set between Elizabethtown and Wilson began in a back-n-forth fashion. After kills from
Eliz Beehler,
Sierra Plummer,
Gracie Britten, and
Savannah Lesley, the Blue Jays were up, 9-7. The Phoneix were able to keep it close as they tied up the set 13-13 after three straight points. Etown gained momentum pulling ahead by five after four in a row. The end of the set was some more back and forth but Etown came out on top, 25-19 as a block by
Ida Fisher and
Campbelle Dayley ended the set.
Wilson started off strong to begin set two as they led, 9-4 early. The Phoenix had almost doubled their lead following four straight points. The Blue Jays came back within two of Wilson after rattling off six in a row.
Marah Glenn,
Bailey McFeaters, and
Alexa Adamek contributed kills on the run. After a tied set at 19-19, Etown ended set two on a 6-1 run with the help from Fisher, Glenn, and Adamek. The Blue Jays won, 25-21.
Wilson again started off with the lead for set three. A kill and an ace from McFeaters tied up the set at 5-5. Three aces in a row from
Leah Gormley brought the Blue Jays out in front, 10-7. Etown continued to pull away from the Phoenix as two Wilson attack errors sandwiched a Blue Jay ace and a kill. The Blue Jays would earn four points in row before, Wilson responded back with four in a row. Elizabethtown continued to hold at least a four-point lead through the end of the set as an Adamek kill ended the match with Etown winning, 25-20.
Elizabethtown is back on the road this Saturday as they travel down to Stevenson for a tri-match with Lancaster Bible starting at 11:00 am.
