OWINGS MILLS, Md.-- The Elizabethtown women's volleyball team traveled down to Maryland to compete in a tri-match at Stevenson, Saturday afternoon. The Blue Jays fell, 3-0 to Stevenson before falling, 3-1 to Lancaster Bible.
GAME ONE: STEVENSON 3; ELIZABETHTOWN 0 (14-25, 22-25, 22-25)
To begin set one against Stevenson, the Mustangs led early, 7-4. The Mustangs then doubled their lead after going on a 4-1 run. Elizabethtown came within three after tallying four in a row. Stevenson rattled off seven straight points extending their lead to 23-13. Before a Stevenson service error, the Mustangs won the first set, 25-14.
Set two began the same with Stevenson holding an 8-3 lead. Etown came within one of the Mustangs after an ace from
Sophie Savick and a kill from
Lucy Stanek. Two Mustang errors then put the Blue Jays out in front, 13-12. Two kills from
Gracie Britten then tied up the set 15-15. After Stevenson added four straight the two teams traded points towards the end of the set with Stevenson winning, 25-22.
The Mustangs came out hot starting the third set taking an 11-2 lead. After some back-and-forth Etown was able to tie up the set 17-17 with the help from Stanek and
Ida Fisher. Stevenson put up three points before Elizabethtown put up three of their own tying up the set again at 20-20. Two Stevenson errors kept Etown in the third set before the Mustangs took the final two points to win, 25-22.
GAME TWO: LANCASTER BIBLE 3; ELIZABETHTOWN 1 (20-25, 25-14, 20-25, 23-25)
Set one started with Lancaster Bible leading by two. The two teams traded points, but LBC still held onto the lead at 14-11. Kills from Fisher,
Savannah Lesley, and Stanek brought the score to 15-16. Two straight kills from the Chargers brought the team within four of set-point. Etown came back with the help from two Chargers errors, but LBC took set one, 25-20.
Elizabethtown jumped out to a 10-3 to start set two after two straight aces from Savick. The Blue Jays extended their lead holding on to a 10-point lead. Kills from Lesley and Britten followed by aces by
Emma Bitner brought the score to 18-7. The Blue Jays lead was too much for Lancaster Bible as Etown won the set, 25-14.
Etown again started out with the lead again to start set three. Lancaster Bible took over the lead after rattling off six straight points. A kill and a block from Britten brought the Blue Jays within four of the Chargers. Stanek smacked down three straight kills as LBC continued to lead, 17-14. Through the end of the set the teams traded points but one final kill from the Charger's ended the set, 25-20.
Elizabethtown led early in set four as Bitner sprinkled in kills. Kills from Lesley, Britten, and Stanek tied up the set 11-11. Three kills in a row from Etown put the Blue Jays up by two at 18-16. Two kills straight by Stanek kept Etown's lead, 22-20. Lancaster Bible tallied four in a row taking a 24-22 lead. Fisher smacked down a kill before the Chargers tallied one of their own to win, 25-23.
Elizabethtown will open up conference play on Friday, October 4 vs. Moravian at 7 p.m.
