ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa.—The Elizabethtown women's volleyball team pulled off a five-set win over Moravian this evening in the Landmark Conference opener.
Sophie Savick tallied a career-high 20 assists and a double-double with 15 digs while
Emma Bitner had a season-high 33 assists.
Kate Barbon totaled a career-high 11 kills.
Lucy Stanek recorded her eighth double-double of the season with 18 kills and 20 digs. Emma Rizzuto also had a career-high 18 digs.
Elizabethtown started off set one on fire as they led, 8-3 early. Moravian then gained momentum tying up the set 12-12 before taking over 21-16. The two teams traded points before Etown retook the lead at 25-24 after four straight points. The Blue Jays tallied one final kill before the Greyhounds grabbed the final three points to win, 28-26.
The Blue Jays momentum majorly changed in the second set as they won, 25-11. To begin the set Etown led, 14-4 after six points in a row as
Savannah Lesley and
Ida Fisher contributed kills. Moravian gained back some points before the Blue Jays rattled off seven in row to come within set point. Stanek, Bitner, and Fisher added kills on the run. The Greyhounds tallied two more points before a block by Barbon and Fisher ended the set, 25-11.
Moravian flipped the script in set three as they started off with a 12-6 lead after firing off seven straight points. The two teams traded points and Etown was able to come within three of the Greyhounds. Moravian then tallied four in a row, increasing their lead, 21-14. Etown couldn't recover as Moravian took the third set, 25-19.
The fourth set open in a back-and-forth fashion with Moravian taking a slight lead. The Blue Jays then went on a 9-1 run which doubled their lead, 16-9.
Sierra Plummer had three straight kills during the run. The teams once again traded points and with the help from Greyhound errors, the Blue Jays led by ten points. Stanek smacked down a kill before another Moravian error ending the set, 25-14.
Etown started off with a 3-0 lead in set five after Barbon recorded two straight kills. Moravian then took a one-point lead before
Gracie Britten and Stanek retook the lead for Etown. Three kills in a row from Stanek put the Blue Jays up 12-6 before Moravian gained momentum tying up the set 12-12. Elizabethtown won the final set, 15-12.
Elizabethtown is back tomorrow starting at 12 PM to face Wilkes in a Conference match before facing Alvernia.
