READING, Pa.—The Elizabethtown women's volleyball team started off their four-game week with a 3-1 win over Penn St.-Berks, Tuesday.
Gracie Britten led the team with nine kills (.333) and two solo blocks.
Lucy Stern totaled 17 digs while
Emma Bitner tallied a double-double of 22 assists and 11 digs.
Sophie Savick added 10 digs and
Kate Barbon totaled eight kills along with
Lucy Stanek.
To begin the first set, Elizabethtown led by two following kills from Stanek and
Ida Fisher. Three straight Penn St.-Berks errors about doubled Etown's lead at 13-7. After trading points, the Blue Jays rattled off the final 10 points in a row. Britten, Barbon, and Stanek tallied kills during the run.
Etown kept their momentum through set two as they led 9-2 early. Two kills from
Marissa Clapsadle sandwiched a
Savannah Lesley kill , extending the Blue Jays lead to 13-5. Britten and Lesley doubled Etown's lead before the Lions would record six straight to come within six points of Etown. A block from Clapsadle and
Bailey McFeaters ended the set with a 25-17 win.
The third set started with both teams trading points. Elizabethtown tied the set at 7-7 after kills from
Leah Gormley and
Angela Ouimet. The Lions gained momentum taking an 18-10 lead after totaling nine points in a row. The Blue Jays couldn't recover as they dropped set three, 15-25.
The fourth set began close as Etown tied up the set at 11-11 following a Britten kill. After some back-n-forth Elizabethtown ended the set on an 11-0 run to win, 25-17.
Elizabethtown returns home this Thursday at 7PM as they host Wilson.
