Messiah Clips Blue Jays

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa.—The Elizabethtown women's volleyball team dropped Tuesday evening's match against visiting Messiah in straight sets.

Emma Bitner totaled 16 assists, three aces, and eight digs. Lucy Stanek totaled 10 kills and 18 digs for a double-double along with a career-high digs. Savannah Lesley and Ida Fisher tallied seven kills while Lucy Stern grabbed 12 digs.

In set one, Elizabethtown just trailed by one early until Messiah rattled off seven straight points to jump to a 13-5 lead. Lesley and Kate Barbon pitched in a kill before the Falcons would tally five straight extending their lead to 22-9. Two Messiah errors sandwiched a Stanek kill as the Blue Jays trailed by ten. Etown couldn't gain enough momentum as they fell, 25-14.

The second set again began with Etown trailing by just one after Bitner and Gracie Britten kills. The Falcons would go up by four before a Fisher kill and Stanek ace tied up the set at 10-10. The Blue Jays then put up six points in a row; half were service aces courtesy of Bitner. As Etown held their largest lead of the evening, Messiah would regain control and tie up the set 20-20. Three Falcon attack errors brought the Blue Jays within set-point, but Messiah would grab the final four to win, 26-24.

Two Stanek kills sandwiched a Fisher kill as Elizabethtown tied up set three, 4-4. Messiah regained the lead before Etown again tied the set. After some back and forth, the set remained close as two straight Stanek kills again tied up the set, 15-15. The Falcons would lead, 20-16 before the Blue Jays took the lead after putting up five straight points. Lesley and Fisher smacked down the final kills but it wasn't enough as Messiah tallied the final three points to win, 25-23.

Elizabethtown is back at it tomorrow as they travel to Haverford at 7PM.
