HAVERFORD, Pa.—In a big match up, the Elizabethtown women's volleyball team completed a reverse sweep at Haverford, Wednesday evening.
Gracie Britten led the team with nine kills while putting up a career-high seven block assists.
Savannah Lesley totaled eight kills, three aces, and two block assists.
Lucy Stern grabbed 23 digs while
Lucy Stanek totaled 16.
Sierra Plummer tallied six kills while adding four block assists.
The first two sets were a struggle for Elizabethtown as they fell, 25-12 and 25-12. After being down 2-0 following the first two sets, the Blue Jays had a strong opening to set three. Etown jumped to a 12-0 lead. Haverford cut the Blue Jays lead after rattling off seven straight. Elizabethtown continued to hold the lead with the help from Fords errors at 21-13. Two Haverford errors ended the set giving the Blue Jays the 25-16 win.
Haverford found their footing again to start set four as they led, 9-3 early. Kills from Plummer and Stanek cut the Fords lead. Kills from Plumer, Britten, and Lesley brought the team within three of Haverford at 16-12. Two Blue Jay kills then sandwiched a block from Stanek and Britten. Through the end of the set the teams traded points before Etown tallied the final four to win 26-24.
Set five was tight to begin with Elizabethtown and Haverford trading points. Etown took a one-point lead following kills by Britten and
Kate Barbon. Haverford smacked down a kill to take an 8-7 lead.
Five straight Ford attack errors lifted the Blue Jays to a 12-8 lead. Haverford was able to come back by three but blocks from Britten, Lesley, and Plummer ended the set to Etown the 15-11 win.
Elizabethtown is on the road again this Saturday, September 14 to compete in a tri-match at Penn St.-Altoona with Chatham. The first match begins at 1PM.
