ALTOONA, Pa.-- It wouldn't be an Elizabethtown women's volleyball tri-match without the Blue Jays going more than three sets in their matches as Etown split with Chatham and Penn St.-Altoona, Saturday.
GAME 1: CHATHAM 2; ELIZABETHTOWN 3 (22-25, 25-21, 25-15, 20-25, 15-5)
Gracie Britten led the team with career-high 13 kills while adding seven digs and four total blocks.
Savannah Lesley totaled 10 kills along with four service aces.
Emma Bitner tallied 24 assists while four Blue Jays put up more than 15 digs each.
Elizabethtown went to their fifth five-set match of the season with their win over Chatham as Etown dropped sets one and four. Set two began with both teams trading points before the Blue Jays went on a 5-1 run to take a 9-6 lead. A Lesley kill followed by two Cougar errors put Etown up just two at 14-12. Chatham took the lead before Elizabethtown rattled off four straight. Kills from
Sierra Plummer and
Ida Fisher brought Etown within two of set-point. Lesley smacked down the final kill to five Etown the 25-21 win.
Set three began with an Etown lead as Chatham tallied three errors in a row early.
Lucy Stanek and Fisher added kills extending the team's lead to 9-3. After some back-n-forth the Blue Jays recorded four in a row to double their lead. Two straight kills from Plummer brought the score to 21-13. The set would end on a Chatham attack error, giving Etown the dominating 25-15 win.
After dropping the fourth set, Elizabethtown had a dominating finish as they won, 15-5. Lesley and Britten recorded kills first to put Etown up 5-0. Britten brought the Blue Jays to 8-2 with a kill. Till the end of the set, Plummer, Fisher, and Stanek tallied kills to give Etown the win.
GAME 2: PENN ST.-ALTOONA 3; ELIZABETHTOWN 2 (26-28, 25-19, 19-25, 25-22, 10-15)
Stanek recorded a double-double as she totaled 19 kills and 21 digs.
Lucy Stern grabbed 24 digs while Bitner totaled 22 assists.
Sophie Savick also had a double-double tallying 15 assists and 11 digs.
After dropping set one, 26-28 Elizabethtown fought back in set two to win, 25-19. To begin the set, Penn St.-Altoona held an early 8-5 lead. After continuing to trail by two, three straight points from the Blue Jays tied up the set 11-11. Etown then rattled off eight points in a row to take a 19-12 lead. Kills from Stanek brought the team within two of set-point.
Campbelle Dayley served an ace before Fisher smacked down the final kill, giving the Blue Jays the 25-19 win.
The Lions flipped the script in the third set as they won, 25-19 to take a 2-1 lead overall. Set four saw the Lions start out with the lead as they did in set two. The Blue Jays responded to tie up the set at 10-10 following a block from Plummer and Fisher. Britten, Plummer, and Stanek tallied more kills, giving Etown a 16-15 lead. The Jays ended the set on a three point run as Bitner served an ace before the final kill.
Elizabethtown will travel to Penn St.-Berks on Tuesday, September 17
th at 7PM.
