ANNVILLE, Pa.-- The Elizabethtown field hockey team took a short trip over to Lebanon Valley for their 2024 season opener. The Blue Jays were shutout by the Dutchmen, 4-0. 

Maeve Keeney and Hannah Long led the team in shots with three apiece. Rachel Murphy made seven saves in goal for Etown. 

Lebanon Valley controlled early, earning a penalty corner three minutes into the first quarter. Following a shot then save by Murphy, the Dutchmen scored on a penalty stroke. LVC continued to be dominate in the first quarter as they tallied five more corners. To start the second Megan Meyer fired off a shot following a corner but it was saved by the Dutchman goalie. At the 18 minute mark, LVC extended their lead by two. Etown began gaining some momentum but was unsuccessful in sneaking past the LVC goalie. 

In the third, Keeney, Meadow Keet, and Mia Fino fired off consecutive shots but each was saved by Lebanon Valley. The Etown defense held strong in the third as they just allowed four Dutchmen shots. Seconds after a corner, Lebanon Valley was back on the board in the fourth quarter to lead, 3-0. With five minutes remaining in the game, the Dutchmen sealed their win with a fourth goal to win, 4-0. 

Elizabethtown will host Stevenson on Wednesday, September 4 at 6pm in their home opener.
