ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- The Elizabethtown College field hockey team had a number of chances, but couldn't capitalize as Stevenson held off the Blue Jays 1-0 at Wolf Field on Wednesday.
A mostly defensive game as neither team amassed more than two shots in a quarter outside of the second when Stevenson outshot Elizabethtown 7-3.
Lily DeBlasio made seven saves in the game for the Blue Jays. She stopped the first two on target in the first quarter and added four more stops in the second quarter.
Maeve Keeney alertly cleared a ball off the line that was bound to go in near the end of the second. That kept the game scoreless as the teams went to halftime still tied 0-0.
Riley Stephan and
Hannah Long had opportunities in the third quarter, but their attempts were turned away by Stevenson goalie Jordan Vradenburgh.
Etown had the first chance of the fourth as Long's shot ricocheted off the post less than a minute into the fourth.
The next shot was the difference in the game, and unfortunately for the Jays, it was Emma Gladstein for the Mustangs that put her team ahead.
Elizabethtown had two penalty corners with under six minutes left, but neither generated a game-tying chance.
The Blue Jays will host St. John Fisher on Saturday, September 7, at 12 p.m.
