ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa.-- In Elizabethtown baseball fashion, the Blue Jays snuck past Wilkes, 8-6 to complete the Landmark Conferece series win after giving up five runs in the top of the eighth.
Greg Zerbe got the win on mound for his fourth of the season as he tallied three strikeouts.
Justin Marraccini closed out the game for Etown earning his first save of the season.
Elizabethtown struck first as
Mason Woolwine singled to right field.
AJ Bednar hit a double to left center to score, Woolwine. After a scoreless second and third the Blue Jays bats got going in the fourth scoring four runs on five hits.
Alex Perrin led off the inning with a double down the left field line.
Griffin Patridge brought home Perrin with a single also down the left field line.
David Woolley picked up an RBI scoring Patridge after he reached second on a sacrifice bunt.
Quinten Perilli's double and Woolwine's single scored two more Blue Jays, ending the inning with a 5-0 lead.
Etown was back at it in the fifth adding another run as
Alex McClain hit a RBI-single to score
RJ Agriss after reaching first on a single of his own. Wilkes got on the board in the seventh on a RBI-double down the right field line. Etown kept their bats hot in the seventh tacking on two more runs which extended their lead to, 8-1. With two outs in the inning, McClain and Patridge reached first via a walk.
Garrett Schwartzbeck knocked his first triple of the season to bring McClain and Patridge across home plate. Blue Jay pitching began to struggle in the eighth as the Colonels scored five runs on just one hit as Etown walked five and hit two in the inning. Even though Wilkes came within two runs of Elizabethtown, the Blue Jays managed to pull out the 8-6 win.
Woolwine capped off his stellar weekend going 3-4 with one run, and one RBI. Woolwine is currently on a 14-game hit streak dating back to game one of the Susquehanna series on March 29. Woolley went 2-4 with one run and one RBI. McClain went 2-3 with one run, one RBI, and a double.
Elizabethtown is back at home on Wednesday, April 24 at 4 pm as they host Moravian.
