WILKES-BARRE, Pa.-- The Elizabethtown women's lacrosse out-scored Wilkes, 5-1 in the second half en route to a 12-8 victory Saturday in Landmark Conference play.
In the first quarter,
Madison Hennelly started off the scoring for Elizabethtown in the 12th minute. Wilkes would take the lead going up, 4-1 with five minutes remaining in the first quarter.
Drew Bridges and
Megan Meyer scored just about over a minute apart to come within one of the Colonels. With just 13 seconds remaining, Gress added an unassisted goal to tie up the game, 4-4. Wilkes grabbed their fifth goal of the game, 20 seconds into the second quarter. Gress again tied up the game, 5-5 after a free-position opportunity.
The Blue Jays kept rolling as
Sam Deiaco scored the next goals for Etown with assists from Gress and
Abby Bach. Midway through the quarter Wilkes came within one of Etown at 7-6 and then tied up the game 7-7 before halftime.
Elizabethtown tacked on three goals in the third quarter as they didn't allow a Colonels goal. Hennelly, Meyer, and Bridges all had their hands on the Blue Jays three goals to extend their lead, 10-7. Etown came out strong in the final quarter scoring two in the 12th and 11th minutes. Wilkes added their final at the nine minute mark as Etown would go on to win, 12-8.
Deiaco and Bridges each tallied a hat-trick for the Blue Jays. Deiaco also picked up seven ground balls and grabbed two draw controls. Gress, Bach, and Meyer each recorded two assists apiece.
Elizabethtown will travel to Juniata on Tuesday, April 23 at 7PM.
