VERO BEACH, Fla.-- The Elizabethtown baseball team had a change of scenery for Thursday's doubleheader against Norwich as they competed at the Jackie Robinson Training Facility at Holman Stadium. The Blue Jays swept the Cadets, 6-2 and 5-1.
GAME 1: ELIZABETHTOWN 6; NORWICH 2
Freshman,
Logan Burns pitched six innings for his first career-win on the mound as he didn't allow a hit until the sixth inning. Burns also recorded eight strikeouts.
RJ Agriss went 2-3 with one run scored, two RBIs and a home run.
Quinten Perilli went 2-4 with two RBIs.
The first two innings were scoreless before Elizabethtown got on the board in the bottom of the third.
David Woolley singled down the left field line and advanced to second on a ground out. On a single by
Alex Perrin, Woolley advanced again.
AJ Bednar then singled to third base to bring Woolley home to take a 1-0 lead over Norwich. Etown grabbed three more runs in the fourth. Agriss led off the inning with a home run to left field. Perilli hit a 2-RBI double to left center to extend the Blue Jays lead, 4-0.
In the fifth, Perrin led off the inning reaching first via a walk and then moving to second on a ground out. Agriss hit a RBI-single to left center to bring in Perrin. After also reaching first via a walk,
Chance Montgomery advanced to second on Agriss' single and to third on another walk.
Mason Woolwine hit a sacrifice fly to score Montgomery. Norwich scored their first of just two runs on the sixth off a sacrifice fly. The Cadets added their final run in the seventh as Etown won, 6-2.
GAME 2: ELIZABETHTOWN 5; NORWICH 1
Justin Peterson earned the win for Etown on the mound, pitching five innings and recording six strikeouts. Peterson tied his career-high of six strikeouts.
Elizabethtown again got on the board first in game two, scoring in the second inning. Agriss led off the inning with a triple to right center. On a sacrifice fly to left field, Agriss scored. After some scoreless innings, the Blue Jays added three more runs in the sixth.
AJ Bednar hit a 2-RBI double to right center to bring home two and then on Etown's second sacrifice fly of the game, Bednar scored. Elizabethtown scored their final run in the seventh off another sacrifice fly. Norwich scored their lone run of the game in the bottom of the seventh.
Etown closes out their spring break trip tomorrow, March 8 starting at 10AM vs. Ursinus in a doubleheader.
