FORT PIERCE, Fla.—The Elizabethtown baseball team dropped their second game of the week as they fell, 11-7 to Penn St.-Behrend.
Penn St.-Behrend got started right away in the first inning scoring off an RBI single. Elizabethtown went up 2-1 on the Lions in the bottom of the first.
David Woolley reached first via a walk and then stole second.
Quinten Perilli singled through the left side, bringing home Woolley. Perilli stole second and third and then scored on a wild pitch. Etown extended their lead 3-1 in the second. Garrett
Schwartzbeck led off with a bunt single and then advanced on a sacrifice bunt. Perilli then hit a RBI-single to bring in Schwartzbeck. The Lions came within one of the Blue Jays in the third.
In the fifth, Penn St.-Behrend took over the lead with a three-run inning. The sixth was scoreless for both before the Lions tacked on three more runs in the seventh to take an 8-3 lead. The Lions again added three more runs in the eighth to gain an even greater lead at 11-3. Elizabethtown gained some momentum in the eighth tallying four runs on two hits.
Alex McClain led off the inning reaching first via a walk and then advanced on
Bryce Keller's single to right center. The two advanced again after
RJ Agriss reached first on a shortstop error to load the bases. Schwartzbeck was hit by a pitch which forced a runner home. Woolley smacked a base clearing double to center field for three-RBIs. After eight innings, Etown trailed, 11-7.
Woolley went 2-4 with one run scored, three RBI, a double, and a stolen base. Perilli went 2-5 with one run scored, two RBI, and two stolen bases. Schwartzbeck went 2-4 with one run scored and one RBI.
Johnathan Travisano went the final two innings recording a career-high three strikeouts.
The Blue Jays are back tomorrow, March 7 in a doubleheader against Norwich starting at 11 AM.
