Blue Jays Extinguish Phoenix

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa.-- Trailing 7-5 after the first quarter, the Elizabethtown women's lacrosse team didn't allow a Wilson goal, Thursday evening as they Blue Jays came out victorious 15-7. 

Elizabethtown took an early 2-0 lead over Wilson as Sam Deiaco and Drew Bridges would score within 15 seconds of each other. Wilson would go on to score the next three to take a 3-2 lead at the 11 minute mark. Megan Gress tied it up at 3-3 before the Phoenix again took the lead, 5-3. Deiaco brought Etown within one before Wilson added two more within 20 seconds of one another. The Phoenix would head into the second quarter with a 7-5 lead. The next three quarters it was all Elizabethtown as the Blue Jays would go on to score ten more goals. 

In the second quarter, Abby Bach assisted Deiaco for the game tying goal at 7-7. In the final three minutes of the quarter, Megan Gress added a free-position goal to give Etown the 8-7 lead over Wilson. In the third quarter, Deiaco had a hand in three of the Blue Jays four goals of the quarter as she scored two while adding an assist for Jordyn Hironiumus. After three quarters, Elizabethtown led 12-7. Elizabethtown wouldn't score until about midway through the final quarter as Deiaco scored back to back goals. With just two minutes remaining, Madison Hennelly scored the Blue Jays 15th and final goal of the game. 

Etown out shot Wilson 37-23 as they held the Phoenix to all there goals in the first quarter. Wilson won the better half of the draw controls as they held the 14-11 edge. 

Rachel Murphy grabbed eight saves in the goal for the Blue Jays. 

Elizabethtown will kick off Landmark Conference play this Saturday, March 23 at 1PM as they travel to Goucher.
