Wilson sets women's basketball single-season record in win over Goucher

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- No other player in Elizabethtown College women's basketball program history has hit more threes in a single season than senior Cyleigh Wilson after the guard dropped in two more treys Wednesday night in the Blue Jays' win over Goucher. Wilson now stands alone as the program's all-time single-season three-point makes leader with 65 and counting. She was one of five players for Etown in double figures.

Wilson, who tortured Goucher (1-21, 1-14 Landmark) last month at the Palestra to the tune of a school and conference single-game record nine threes, added a few more to her total in the game. The Gophers had her guarded tightly on each offensive possession, but she was able to shake loose in the first quarter to knock down a three from the left wing, which tied her single-season career high from last year (64).

Elizabethtown utilized its size as DaniRae Renno did the work in the paint as the Blue Jays were able to find their forward early and often. Renno would finish the night with 14 points and eight rebounds. Etown recorded 46 of its 97 points in the paint.

The Jays shot 13-for-24 in the first quarter and took a 31-10 lead into the second. Lindsay Boyd and Allyia Kennedy accounted for the first six points in the second for Elizabethtown before Ella Gordon hit from beyond the arc. EC was 9-for-23 from deep in the game. Cass Peris sank both free throw attempts in the second as did Ellie Fasick. Those followed Katie Haefner's jumper from the right corner, just inside the three-point line.

The Blue Jays shot a perfect 10-for-10 at the free throw line in the first half and led 56-21 at the break.

Makenna Mummert, another of the five in double figures for the Jays, and Renno tallied most of the early third-quarter points. Wilson's record-breaking moment came later in the third with just over two minutes remaining in the third. Elizabethtown worked to get Wilson open and she was able to collect a pass on the left side from Mummert and drill the three to set the new mark.

Jessica King would hit her first career three-pointer with 1:29 to go in the third.

Boyd hit both of her threes in the fourth quarter as the Blue Jays' hot shooting continued. They hit on 50 percent or better from the floor in three of the four quarters. Taylor Huyck beat the shot clock with 3:16 remaining and Fasick finished out the scoring on Etown's last offensive possession as Jess Pronchick found the sophomore inside for the layup.

Wilson now has at least two threes in 19 games and takes down Nancy Keene's single-season record set back in 1988-89. She had 12 points for the Jays. Mummert had 12 and Boyd and Fasick each provided 10 off the bench.

Elizabethtown will host Wilkes on Senior Day, Saturday, February 10, at 4 p.m.
