ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- The Elizabethtown College women's basketball team celebrated their seniors ahead of Saturday's Landmark Conference matchup with Wilkes at Thompson Gymnasium.
DaniRae Renno and
Summer McNulty each poured in 17 points while
Jessica King was also in double figures with 14 as the Blue Jays got the job done on their home court, 79-61. Renno and King each had double-doubles for the Jays.
Wilkes (8-15, 4-12 Landmark) held an early lead, but the Blue Jays were right there with them as they battled back and forth. In the span of just over a minute's time, there were five lead changes as the pace quicked in the latter half of the first quarter.
Makenna Mummert gave Etown a one-point lead, but the Colonels took it right back. McNulty immediately followed with a jumper only to be answered by Julia Marino at the other end. Mummert hit her second shot in a minute-plus as the Jays snatched the lead back and then never looked back.
The Elizabethtown (17-6, 13-3 Landmark) held Wilkes scoreless over the final 3:37 as they built up a 23-12 lead, capped off by
Allyia Kennedy's layup with two seconds remaining in the first.
The Blue Jays were able to control the post area offensively as Renno and King combined for 22 first-half points. They were a combined 8-for-13 from the field and 6-for-6 at the foul line. Each player also had four rebounds.
Etown led by as many as 13 early in the second after
Cass Peris' layup to start the quarter. The Colonels went on an 8-0 run to get within five, 25-20. They hung around and kept it at two possessions through the 3:20 mark of the second.
Taylor Huyck sank a pair of threes over a minute and a half span, the second of which put Elizabethtown up by 10, 39-29, with a little over a minute to go before the half.
Renno had the final four points of the half for Etown, connecting on layups down low. EC led 43-33 at the break.
The first seven points of the second half belonged to the home squad as King knocked down another set of foul shots, Mummert dished to Renno down low, and then Renno found
Cyleigh Wilson on the left wing for three, giving her at least one in every game this season to keep the streak going.
Wilkes made a push toward the end of the quarter and were close to getting it back to single digits, but the lead still sat at 12 entering the fourth for Etown.
Kennedy came up with the steal on the Colonels' first possession of the fourth, getting a hand on the ball as McNulty came up with it and got it to the sophomore for the transition basket.
The Blue Jays were in full control, hitting over 40 percent from the floor as a team in all four quarters and now allowing Wilkes to get back into the game. Wilson sank another three late in the game, her second of the day. Wilson, McNulty and Huyck each finished with two threes. The Colonels shot 6-for-22 from deep (27.3 percent).
Renno had 17 points and 10 boards while King finished with 14 points and 11 rebounds. McNulty added five boards and four assists to her 17. Peris and Huyck, both seniors, combined for 11 off the bench.
Katie Haefner was one of 10 players for the Jays to finished with a plus-rating on the court in the game.
Elizabethtown will play at Drew on Wednesday, February 17, at 7 p.m.
